Crises tax in Croatia
At 1 of August, the Croatian government implemented a crises tax law, which adds a special crises tax of 2% on incomes higher then 3.000 kuna and lower then 6.000 kuna, on incomes higher than 6.000 a 4% crises tax was added.
The law was implemented quite rapidly, so it ended up have a few “holes”
- People with EXACLY 6.000 kuna net payment should not pay crises tax as law was defined as 2% on less then 6.000 and 4% on higher than 6.000.
- Self-employed people dentist, lawyers etc did not have to pay crises tax.
Many Croatian tax payers believe the law is against the constitution, so It will now be tested on the constitutional court.
A form for proposals evaluation of the constitutionality of the crises tax (called Hara? in Croatia) can be found on lots of online pages. The word Hara? has historical meaning. That was “TAX” that the residents should pay to the Turks during the reign of the Ottoman Empire.
7.000 Croatians till today send their requests, even president Stjepan Mesi? did a same.If the constitutional court decides this law is not valid according to the constitution, only the citizens who send this form can apply for re-foundation of the additional crises tax which they have paid on their income. The Form can be printed online, only you have to sign and send recommended to the court (cost is 12 kn.), so it is quite interesting to see what will be total number of those requests.
