Croatia, 4.8% decrease in number of Tourist arrivals

Split Mini cruisersThe Croatian central bureau of statistic report a 4.8% decrease in number of tourist arrivals in the period from January till July 2009. The Foreign tourist arrivals decrease with 3.4% and domestic arrivals decrease by 11.9%.

All summer I have been listened to complains about the bad season, so I was actually quite surprised t see that number decreased with less then 5%, and this even with out the August number, which by many was perceived to have been better then August 2008.

If the whole year ends up with a decrease in tourist arrivals of less then 5%, I think Croatia did quite good compared to several other countries depending on the tourist industry, and I hope that Croatia in 2010 will be able to keep the current level of tourists.

From what I heard, the hotels was the once suffering the most from the decreased number of tourist, private accommodation was partly also hit but not to same extend as the hotels.

For the yacht and boat charter industry, I have heard different opinions about the season so I am exited to see when the actual numbers are out. One tourist area which did very good this year was the mini cruisers, who is offering Island hopping out of cities like Split, Trogir and Dubrovnik, the pictures here is from this Saturday, where more then 20 mini cruiser was preparing to leave Split for a week in the Adriatic.
