Split Oldtimer Rally 1In September 2009, 2758 new cars were registered in Croatia, which is 57.7 percent less than in the same month last year. According to the agency Promotion Plus this is a record annual decline in the monthly car sales in Croatia.

This year’s lowest monthly car sales were registered in August with 2430 sold cars. For the first nine month of 2009, 35.187 cars were sold, which is 49,7 percent less than in the same period last year .

Croats still mostly like Opel, it is on the first place with the 3996 cars sold, in the first nine months and a market share of 11.36 percent.

Second place goes to Volkswagen with 3331 sold cars and a market share of 9.47 percent. On third place comes Renault with 3161 cars and market share of 8.98 percent.

Sales first nine month 2009, based on car model:

  • Opel Astra- 2491
  • Volkswagen Golf -1,404
  • Renault Clio -1,241
  • Renault Megane – 1,069
  • Ford Focus – 1,051

In Europe for the first 8 month of 2009, a total of 9.59 mio. cars were sold, which is 8,4% lower than the same period last year.

There are few countries which have a higher decline in car sales, than Croatia:

  • Latvia (80.2 percent)
  • Iceland (78.8 percent)
  • Lithuania (69.4 percent)
  • Estonia (66.8 percent)
  • Ireland (63.7 percent)
  • Romania (59.5 percent)

Tricky questions comes,  when you  seek the cause of the sales decline in Croatia. Is it because of  fear of what tomorrow will bring, or is it because the citizens are not able to get loans from the banks?

Let’s hope it is first one (-:
