Croatian Handball men win Silver

In a fully packed Wiener Stadthalle, Croatia’s handball men hat to settle for Silver, as the French World and Olympic champions completed their Hatrick, by winning the European championship in Austria.

The Croatian team, who was backed by the majority of the fans, gave France an even fight in the first half, which ended 12-12 after Croatia leading 12-9 2 minutes before halftime. At the beginning of the second half France turned a 12 – 13 to a 17 – 13 lead. Although Croatia manage to get on 18-19 the Frenchmen seamed to be in full control of the game, am won the game with 25 to 21.

This was Croatia’s 3 silver medal in the last two years, after loosing the 2008 EM final to Denmark, and last years world championship final to France on home ground in Zagreb.

Island ended on the third place after defeating Poland by 29-26.

Next challenge for the Handball men will be the World championship in Sweden in 2011 and the European championship in Serbia in 2012, in the same year the Olympic are also played. It is exiting to see, if somebody finally succeed in beating the French triple champions.
