Former Prime minister Sanader returns to politics

Submitted by Croatiablognews on January 3, 2010 – 9:43 pm4 Comments

Zagreb CathedralToday the former Croatian Prime minister Ivo Sanader announced that he will return to Croatian politics, as his entitle to as honoree president of the HDZ.

It is still unclear why Sanader resigned as Prime minister 6 month ago, but there have been several speculations in the press after he resigned.

Sanader announced he would return to politics to help his party HDZ, who failed to get their president candidate Andrija Hebrang, in the second election round for the next Croatian president, which now is a race between the social democrat candidate and the Zagreb Major.

The successor of Sanadar, Jadranka Kosor has been running a zero tolerance towards corruption and she managed to get an agreement with the Slovenians having them unblocking several chapters in relation to Croatia EU accession.

The last couple of month Kosor hard line has led to several arresting s in Croatian state companies, and several cases of potential high scale corruption has been revealed, the Croatian press have speculated that Sanader has been involved in several of these case, so the real reason for his return could be connected to these cases, this was although denied by Sanader at today’s press conference.

Some think that the return of Sanader could force the coalition government to step down as several of the small parties had announced that they did not want to sit in the government if Sanader returned.

The current Prime Minister Kosor, has received international recognition for here zero tolerance against corruption, also among the population she seams to become more and more popular, which is not that case for here and Sanaders party the HDZ.

The corruption scandal seams to be the main reason why the president candidate Hebrang did not make it to the second round. Hebrang today said that the party does not want Sanader back as he left politics as a coward and the current PM Jadranka Kosor is doing a fine job.

In the English language forum, where several expats and Croatians living abroad participate, Kosor has also been very popular, especially compared to Sanader.

A good illustration of the conflict been the former and current prime minister was illustrated by the headline of an article in the newspaper Jutarnji list “Sanader is declaring war on PM Kosor”

    hi Morten,

seems your Croatian News needs an update, since Sanader burned down to his feet, showing less political knowledge than a chicken of laying eggs.

lucky enough Jadanka Kosor showed extreme political quality in getting him out reach before he could start a real fire in Zagreb.

lets wait and see if Ivo keeps burning when justice puts some extra wood under his feet.

hurray for democracy, let’s go to the EU.

    pozdrav, pim.
