Guide to cheap flights to Croatia
After approximately 300 flights over the last 10 years, I would say I have got a bit of experience in chasing cheap flights, the last five year I have been flying in and out of Croatia, so here you have my advices for flying to and from Croatia.
General information:
If you plan to spend your holiday in Croatia, you should know well ahead when you are going to travel, you should then check out all airlines flying to this destination, go to their homepage an sign of for their newsletter (don’t worry they will only send you mail once a month) in this way you get first hand information when they have special offers, who knows maybe you are lucky that they have tickets on sale for your specific destination.
If your travel in July and August you should book in do time, if you get good offer from the airlines companies where you signed up for the newsletter, don’t hesitate to book, capacity is limited in that period.
Make sure to plan how you will get from the airport to the final destination in Croatia, if you have to travel far, you should book a transfer or rent a car, both thinks are normally cheaper the earlier, you book.
Croatia Airlines has domestic flights from Zagreb to Dubrovnik, Zadar, Pula and Split, Island Krk (Rijeka Airport), normally ticket are quite cheap if you book in due time, here my experience is that ticket are the cheapest on Croatia airlines homepage.
As travelling via Zagreb normally is not optimal way to get to the Adriatic cost most people of course try to find direct flight to the coastal cities, but if you are not under time pressure it is often cheaper to fly to Zagreb and take a domestic flight from there or rent a car.
How to get the really cheap flight to Croatia:
Travel outside of main season, in April, May, September and October ticket cost a fraction of the prices in the main season; same apply to rented cars etc.
By flexible in terms of travelling dates, the more flexible the cheaper it gets.
Croatia is a relative small country, so check out flight to other airports in Croatia before booking.
Book when you think the offer is on a fair level, (Prices can also go up) it is better to pay what you consider being a fair prices, instead of risking having to pay more (If prices should drop – ignore it).
Outside of main season you might also find last minute offers at a bargain price, but don’t count on it.
Also I can be advisable to visit some of the page who offers comparison of hundreds of airline companies, in this way you also catch the offers from other carries offering the flight via one or two hubs.
Here you can check out the Airport in Croatia: Split_Airport | Zagreb_Airport | Dubrovnik_Airport | Zadar_Airport | Pula_Airport | Osijek_Airport | Krk/Rijeka_Airport.

Croatia is a really nice country. I like the fact that the sea is so close to the mountains, it gives you a unique feeling. Thanks for this great article. It is very useful for me.
Highly recommended in case you want to fly at a bargain:
see germanwings.com.
We fly twice a year at least, book far ahaid, and have direct connection from Koln or Dortmund to Split (and back, ha ha).
Our origin is Holland, but spending a lot of our time in Croatia, the best in our opinion is German Wings, cheap, direct to Split, and friendly service without bla bla, a dry cheeseroll or a no good coocky.
And in case you desperately want an on-board drink or food, they sell it, but who cares, within two hours you are on Split-Airport, close to Trogir and its lovely konoba’s at the riva.
Hi Pim
we also you germanwing, they really have some good offer, one year we manage to get ticket Zagreb – Hamburg – Zagreb and back for a TOTAL of 1200 Kuna, for 4 persons, absolutely amazing.
