Zagreb - Trg Bana JelacicaPress freedom has been a frequently discussed issued in Croatia during the last years, unfortunately Croatia is not progressing in that relation, but seam to have less and less freedom of press from year to year.

According to the recently publish survey by the Report with out borders, Croatia has dropped 33 placed from 2008 to 2009 and now on position now 78 rank as the worst country, among of the former members of the Yugoslavian republic.

The survey is based on a questionnaire completed by hundreds of journalists and media experts around the world. This year’s index reflects press freedom violations that took place between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009.

The recent verdict of the Croatian blogger Damir Fintic, might not contribute to an improvement in next years list.

One could wonder why, press freedom is not an issue in relation to Croatia’s EU negotiations with the EU, reason for that might be that countries like, France, Italy and Span rank only slightly better then Croatia, all behind countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and South Africa.
